The People’s Platform

Written by one of our MSU members Katlin Hilton:

Recap from the Weekend at the GOP Convention in Augusta, ME.

“I’m not a democrat. I’m not a republican. I am a patriot. I support those that have my best interests in mind. I’ve had a serious problem with how our state has been run over the past few years. Instead of sitting on my couch complaining about it, I got involved. I have never been into politics, but since my freedoms have been at stake, it’s time I start.

I went to the Maine Republican Convention and I, personally asked the candidates the difficult questions. I also educated them on the importance of medical freedom and what the people really want. Eric and I spent the month of March working with a group of republicans, Christian’s, alternative media sources, legislators, and house representatives to create “The People’s Platform”. Anyone can sign the platform, parties don’t matter! By signing the platform candidates agree to put in titles to work towards these important issues here in Maine. What this does, is this allows the newly elected government to get right to work come January, as the important issues will already be in the title process. We worked hard to make this something everyone can agree on. Forget the left and the right and focus on the real issues.

I presented “The People’s Platform” to the Republicans GOP nominee for Governor, former Governor, Paul Lepage. When I first showed it to him, he said he didn’t like the wording on one of our points; being “good sustainability”, he suggested “food security” as we need to ensure we always have a right to food. We talked for about 15 minutes about the platform as a whole. I went back to our group and we made the adjustment to our wording. The next day I went back and showed Governor Lepage that we took what he said to heart and made the change. Without me asking, he said he would now sign it! So I gave him the pen and the rest is history!

I can personally say that I support Governor Paul Lepage to be the next Governor of Maine. I trust that he has our best internet in mind and he truly cares about the people of this state. Be open to other candidates. Again, party lines shouldn’t matter…..freedom, life and liberty should!

***I also managed to get 50 candidates to sign the platform. Two candidates I’m featuring in this post are: Ed Thelander for Congress (district 1) and Liz Caruso for Congress (district 2). They are both absolutely amazing and ready to fight for the people and freedom! I’ll be voting for Liz as she’s in my district; but all my southern Maine friends I encourage you to check out Ed Thelander.”
