Medical Freedom Candidates: Elizabeth Jordan

“This group has been my lifeline through the Covid nightmare, and I stand proudly with you all.”

I am a native Mainer and more recent transplant to Kennebunkport Maine. I returned to Maine after many years away having been relocated with my family from Bangor at the age of twelve; spending my teen years and young adulthood in Virginia. After losing my husband of thirty years in 2016, I decided to return to my home state of Maine and landed in Kennebunkport. I began rebuilding my life here, finding full-time work in an Assisted Living Residence until March of 2020. The so-called pandemic hit and I was terminated from my job, losing all of my benefits and health care and then being unable to work anywhere because of my medical exemption for the mask. This is where the seeds of my fight were planted.

I have been active in politics previous to this; a regular voter, active in my town committee, and involved by keeping up with the bills and writing to my legislators. But when I learned in February of 2022 that my democrat opponent was going to go unchallenged, I sensed the call to step up and run for the seat. I could not let her simply walk in unchallenged. A little later another Republican stepped up to run in the Republican primary, but after hearing him speak I knew I still needed to stay in the game. I did not sense the passion and conviction that I felt was needed after the Covid debacle of the past two years. And so I won my primary in June by a landslide!

I was born in Portland and raised in Bangor. For many years I Iived in Virginia and raised my three amazing children. While I enjoyed my life in Virginia, I was happy and comforted to return home to Maine almost five years ago. I have settled into the beautiful coastal community of Cape Porpoise.

In Virginia, I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University, married my southern gentleman, and spent my adult years as a homemaker and mother. I volunteered in many ways in my community: In the schools, in the church, and in the local food co-op, serving as its director and bringing fresh food from the farm to local tables. I have worked in assisted living health care and I have volunteered at an equestrian ministry that serves our patriotic veterans.

I returned to Maine in September, 2017, the year following the passing of my husband of thirty years. I had been longing to return home and knew it was time. Maine has always been a healing place for me. I sold our house and most of our possessions and moved to Kennebunkport. I have not looked back. I love my home state and her people and will work hard to make Maine life “the way life should be”, as her slogan says.
